The sound stage was created in the NW quarter of the 501 building by cutting out the roof, removing the 8 inch square wooden structural posts set every 20 feet, pouring a monolithic completely smooth concrete floor suitable for dolly moves and raising the ceiling height to 23 feet with room for soundproofing. This is a shot of one of the steel structural beams being craned into place. When completed, this was the first sound stage in Austin not associated with a TV station and primarily used for film production.
